February Love & Kindness – Little Joys, Big Celebrations!

Love & Kindness

Whoop – we’re nearly through the darkest quarter of the year here in the Northern Hemisphere, and the daffodils are back in the shops! Those bright yellow bunches are my little weekly treat when I do the food shop. They bring so much joy for such a small cost, and they always remind me how powerful it is to notice the little things.

February may be the shortest month of the year, but it’s full of moments worth celebrating – from snowdrops peeking through the soil to pancake flipping (a firm family favourite) and, of course, LOVE. I know Valentine’s Day can feel over-commercialised, but I’m all for spreading kindness and warmth in ways that don’t have to cost a thing.

This month also brings Candlemas, Ash Wednesday and the start of Lent, with Ramadan expected to begin on 17 February. Even if you don’t follow these traditions, they offer wonderful opportunities for learning, reflection, and meaningful family conversations.

I’ve learned that slowing down, living in the present, and tuning into the small seasonal changes and celebrations each month makes a huge difference to my wellbeing – and it’s something I love sharing with my family too.

February Printables

We all know that Valentine's Day is the 14th Feb, but did you know that Random Acts of Kindness Day is the 17th?

February Activities

Roses

As much as I adore homemade flowers such as our beautiful cake case daffodils, nothing beats the simple rose.

Each of these simple paper roses starts as a circle. See how here.

Painted Candles

I see painted candles all over the internet; however, they use acrylic paint and even if it is water-based I am unsure of the efficacy of burning them and for me, I love candlelight

So I used the wax candle pens I got at Christmas and tried painting with them; this is the outcome.

Paper Plate Clock

Whether you are teaching your children to tell the time or want a great craft activity, a paper plate clock is an excellent way to get talking about time as you make one.

I love this simple activity especially as it has flaps that lift up for minutes.

Ojo De Dios

Make an easy God’s Eyes or Ojo de Dios using popsicle sticks and yarn. It is a great craft, perfect for working on fine motor skills, but also brilliant for learning basic weaving.

We also love making these with variegated yarn and twigs collected on a nature walk.

February Eats

Slow cooker meals to get us through the dark winter days and the occasional treat - February is all about balance. This month I am sharing smoothies that are kid-approved and simple pizza bites (perfect for afterschool snacks or lunch boxes). Plus a simple microwave sponge pudding for a sweet homemade treat.
